João Botelho

Líneas de Investigación:

• Estudié Biología y Filosofía en la Universidad Federal de Santa Catarina en Brasil y, posteriormente, realicé estudios doctorales en la Universidad de Chile y pasantías postdoctorales en las universidades de Auckland, en Nueva Zelandia, y Yale, en EEUU. Me interesa la diversidad animal en sus diversos ámbitos: embrionario, morfológico, evolutivo y paleontológico. En nuestro laboratorio investigamos cómo el desarrollo de los sistemas musculoesquelético, vascular y neural influyen entre sí, y cómo esta interacción resulta en la aparición de la diversidad biológica. Para abordar estas preguntas, usamos embriones de pollo como modelo experimental y embriones de otras especies de aves, mamíferos y reptiles para el análisis comparativo. El enfoque es metodológicamente diverso, incluyendo biología del desarrollo, así como análisis histológicos y anatómicos. Estamos particularmente involucrados en el uso de nuevas técnicas que permiten la integración de datos embriológicos y morfológicos, como los protocolos de tinción fluorescente de embriones enteros, y la reconstrucción tridimensional de datos obtenidos por microscopía confocal y µCT de rayos-X en colaboración con paleontólogos.
