LBBB will be held September 5-9, 2022 in Heiligkreuztal, Germany. LBBB is a prestigious biennial meeting held since 1989, with a unique format of providing a scientific discussion forum exclusive to only 30 exceptional early career researchers. Participants are expected to deliver a 15-minute oral presentation on their most recent (unpublished) work or ideas for future projects. There will be ample time following each presentation and throughout the course of the meeting for discussions. LBBB has a long-standing track record of boosting the career of many young investigators. The organizers encourage applicants from basic, clinical and industry research, working on topics relating to gastrointestinal physiology and pathophysiology, including but not limited to developmental studies, inflammation, functional disorders, gut-brain axis, therapy and drug discovery.

Eligibility criteria:

• A young investigator in the broad field of neurogastroenterology and/or digestive disease. Last-year PhD student, post-doc or junior faculty within 7 years* of receiving terminal degree (MD, PhD).

• Willing to be an active participant in scientific discussion. *If extenuating circumstances should be considered during the application review process, please clearly state them in your letter of intent. Applicants should submit via the Google forms link (https://tinyurl.com/LBBB2022) by May 15, 2022:

• This is a two round application process. The first is double blinded, based on the letter of intent, so we ask that you anonymize this letter (i.e. no institution, mentor names or publications, etc.). The second round is based on your CV and letter of support.

• Letter of intent (max 1 page) detailing your research experience, research interests, key techniques, career goals and your motivation to participate in LBBB. Please indicate whether you’ve previously attended LBBB. This is not an abstract. We wish to provide a format in which an attendee will present their most recent and cutting-edge work. Abstracts will therefore only be requested after acceptance and shortly before the meeting.

• Updated curriculum vitae (max 2 pages)
• Letter of support (max 1 page) by your mentor or, in the case of junior faculty, by a senior colleague.

• Expected cost (in euros) of round-trip economy travel expenses to Germany (aim to arrive September 5). This information will not be used as a basis for selection, only for planning purposes. It is however, highly recommended for applicants to apply for personal travel grants from their own institutions or relevant funding bodies.
